Description
Largely semi-desert country, Chad is rich in gold and uranium and is currently enjoying an oil boom. Exxon Mobil leads a consortium of Chevron and Petronas that has invested $3.7 billion to develop oil reserves estimated at one billion barrels in southern Chad. Its underdeveloped infrastructure and internal conflict has slowed its growth. 80% of Chad's population relies on subsistence farming and livestock keeping. Cotton, which was a vital export before oil, remains a primary export.
