Description
Algeria is the second largest country in Africa and the 11th largest in the world in terms of geographic extent. Fossil fuels form the backbone of the economy and account for 95% of all exports from Algeria.
Approximately 25% of the population is employed in the agricultural sector and the main crops are cereal grains, citrus fruit and vegetables. There is however room for further development of the agricultural sector. Efforts are being made to diversify the economy and stimulate growth in other sectors.
