Description
Following independence in 1975, Mozambique was subsequently marred by 16 years of civil war. After a political settlement in 1992, the country experienced rapid economic growth though this has since been affected by both floods and a severe drought, leaving the country reliant on international assistance. Subsistence agriculture remains the biggest form of employment in the country, though tourism is an important and growing sector.
