Although the continent is not insulated from the global financial crisis, African countries will perform "relatively better" than other regions of the world this year, according to experts at the session on Africa at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos.

Africa’s growth in 2009 is pegged on the fact that its capital markets are not integrated globally except for South Africa, therefore limiting the effects of the financial crisis in the continent.

Experts however predicted that some 3.5% points will come off the continent’s GDP growth this year, with serious problems such as the closure of several mines in Zambia, already obvious.

The “The Africa You Don’t Know” session focused on investment opportunities available in the continent, and the need for the media to reflect Africa positively.
