Mineral rich Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries met for a first time congress in Dubai to discuss emerging investment, development and funding opportunities.

The countries have recorded limited private investments owing to lack of oil and gas industry legal and regulatory structures. The region is currently exploring reform measures.

The mining congress is co-sponsored by the International Finance Corporation (IFC). Senior operations manager Frank Sader said an improved policy will significantly enhance the attractiveness of sustainable private mining in MENA Countries, helping create new industries and jobs.

Egypt and Yemen are particularly keen to strengthen their policy frameworks for mining. IFC has been helping the two countries to create frameworks consistent with international best practices, and aimed at attractive foreign investors.
