Zambian firm Pezolina Mining and Contractors has earmarked $600,000 to help fund a new gypsum prospect in the country, and said the project is likely to attract interest from the Middle East.
“We have set aside some funds for a gypsum prospecting project which will be carried out in Central and Copperbelt provinces where there is more potential,” said operations manager Philip Schopper.
Prospecting of gypsum, which is used in the manufacture of ceramics, plaster of Paris and school chalk, is expected to start in November, added the company.
Schopper also noted that the project was likely to attract a partnership arrangement, with a Middle Eastern firm having already demonstrated interest.
