Portuguese cement company increases investment in Mozambique

Portuguese cement company Cimpor has announced it will double production at its Matola plant in southern Mozambique.

According to Agencia de Informacao de Mocambique, the Matola facility currently has a capacity of 500,000 tonnes of cement a year. The new investment will bring production to one million tonnes a year.

Cimpor has signed a contract with South Africa-based Group Five for the construction work on the expansion.

Cimpor is the majority shareholder in Cimentos de Mocambique which owns three factories in the country.
