The Mozambique tourism minister announced yesterday that tourism revenue in the country in 2009 amounted to $200-million, more than double the amount it was in 2004 – when it was $90-million.
Mozambique is blessed with an amazing 2500km of pristine Indian Ocean coastline and during 2009 this main attraction drew some 1.5-million people to the country.
The 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa is hoped to be a springboard for the next surge in tourism in Mozambique and it is hoped that many people will make the trip across the border. The government aims to attract 4 million tourists a year by 2020.
