Morocco has unveiled a $9 billion solar energy project aimed at cutting it’s oil and gas imports.
Government officials said the project which involves five solar power generation sites across the country will produce 2,000 megawatts of electricity by 2020.
The project, a public private partnership, is expected to launch the development of a renewable energy industry in the only North African country without oil production.
Energy minister Amina Benkhadra was quoted by Reuters saying the government would guarantee technical and financial resources to ensure the project succeeds.
