



1. International airport and link road
Project description: This project entails the construction of an international airport at Sikhuphe, and the upgrading of a link road from the airport to Manzini. The design of the airport is complete while the runway is 90% done. The project falls under the Millennium Program, which aims to accelerate economic growth with strategic projects involving the development of infrastructure and tourism.
Features
Once completed Sikhuphe airport will have the capacity to:
• Hold B747 aircrafts
• Serve flights to any
destination in the world
• Primarily serve a proposed International Convention Centre.
• Serve as a tourism gateway to the Kruger, Maputo, KwaZulu Natal, Victoria Falls and Swaziland’s game parks.
Level of investment: +/-US$150 million
Type of investment: Public Private Partnership
Sector status: There is currently one airport, which cannot handle large aircraft. The proposed airport will provide an alternative to the use of O.R Tambo airport in South Africa for both cargo and tourists coming into the country.
2. Construction of low cost to middle income housing.
Status: There is need for low cost housing in Swaziland as increased urbanization puts strain on available infrastructure. Government and other international organisations are funding this 5-year project worth US$100 million.
Type of investment: Public Private Partnerships, private sector partnerships, joint ventures
Fiscal incentives: Access to available local funds.
