Project name: Extraction of bio-diesel from jatropha curcas

Project description: The project aims at extracting seed oil from jatropha curcas, an indigenous  plant to Uganda which thrives in arid regions and requires modest water and nutrients while its oil yield is relatively high. Experts put annual yield per hectare at up to 8 tonnes of seed which can contain over 30% oil. The promoter aims to grow 1,500 acres of jatropha plant with corresponding oil capacity of 1.8 million litres per annum. There are plans to get supplements from out growers.

Estimated cost of investment : US$250,000

The extracted seed oil has medicinal, mechanical and fertilizer applications.
