Project name: Green data centres
Estimated investment cost: US$20 million
Project description
With excellent telecommunication infrastructure, regulatory framework and low tax regimes, Mauritius is well-positioned for hosting data centres. However, power supply scalability and stability is a blocking issue for data centres due to the high energy requirements for cooling. The Mauritius at Land Based Oceanic Industry park (LBOI) , to be completed by the end of 2009, will solve this problem by providing renewable cooling energy through use of deep sea
water air cooling technology.
The Green Data Centre pole of the LBOI park is expected to be the first fully green IT ecosystem in the country, with a stake to be the world’s first SWAC (sea water air cooling) cooled centre.
The park is expected to provide an invaluable appeal for data centre operators wishing to offer clean-energy services to their end users.
