Project: Tourist airplane charters
Project location: Kigali International Airport - the airport is located about 12km from Kigali City and is the primary airport and the main air gateway for all tourist destinations. It also serves as a transit airport for Goma and Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Project summary: The proposed project to establish a tourist charter plane company to provide easy access to popular tourist sites. The upgrade of Kigali International Airport would provide the space needed for additional services, including airplanes.
Investment cost: US$3 042 000
ROI: 3% the first year and 15% the fifth year.
Sector: Rwanda’s tourism sector is growing and earned an estimated US$59-million in 2010 compared to US$47-million in 2009,
representing an increase of 24%. Leisure visitors contributed the most to the earnings, followed by business travellers. However, road travel to tourist sites is inconviniencing, hence the need to invest in air transport.
