The construction and development of the tourism institute will meet the large demand for hotel professionals in the country. Potential investors are expected to provide training in the following fields:

• Hospitality management
• Tour and travel operations
• Food and beverages services
• Front office operations
• House keeping
• Food production

Project location: Gisenyi, in the Western Province. Gisenyi is one of Rwanda's key tourism destination areas with plenty of hotels, proximity to Lake Kivu and Volcanoes National Park.

Cost of investment: US$ 1,021,818

Sector overview: Tourism is currently among the top foreign exchange earners, bringing in $42.3 million in 2007. Rwanda has continued to attract significant investments in the sector estimated at $78m in 2008; and the single largest FDI amounted to $230 million.

The country’s strategic geographical location and scenery, the increasingly growing population of its mountain gorillas, security, as well as good policies on wildlife and tourist sites protection are seen as the driving force behind the success of the sector.

The sector is expanding exponentially but is facing a serious shortage of professional staff, with foreign companies currently supplying hospitality staff. The only existing tourism training institution, Kigali Tourism School, can not meet the staffing needs of the sector.

For further information on the tourism institute investment contact the Rwanda Development Board (RDB).
