



Project name: Developing strategic fuel depots
Project description: The project will ensure energy security in the country in case of an emergency situation leading to a shortage or unavailability of petrol and diesel, while also creating job opportunities. A feasibility study and demand forecasts are available at the ministry of natural resources and energy.
Project cost: An estimated US$93 million.
Project location: Phuzumoya in Southern Swaziland. The site has some existing tanks, rail station, and minimal environmental impact for underground storage. It is also close to major ports, with enough land for expansion.
Implementation period: 2 years and 4 months
Operational date: 2011
Basic infrastructure: Excellent roads, 330 000 sq metres of land, rail sliding on the North Eastern
part of the site. New sliding to be introduced.
Type of investment: Public Private Partnership, with a payback period of 20 years.
Market size
Value of local demand: US$100 million per year
Value of imports: US$ 100 million per year.
