Aquaculture & Mariculture

Investment opportunity: Uganda is seeking investment in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors in order to meet the rising demand in local and international markets. Investment opportunities range from establishing fish farms and fish processing plants, providing cold storage facilities to production and marketing of fish by-products, and establishing fish feed plants.
Sector: Uganda's fisheries sector has grown significantly on the back of increasing demand from international markets. However, more investment is needed to expand the sector in order to meet the government’s set export quota of 60 000 metric tonnes per annum. The nile perch and tilapia, which are found in Lake Victoria, are the most commercially viable. Fish and fish products comply to the European Union's
hygiene directive (91/493/EEC) and other international standards. Incentives for the sector include 100% capital allowances for RD and training.
