The government of Seychelles sees investment in the healthcare sector possibly turning the southern Africa country into a medical tourism hub that focuses on niche markets.
Investment opportunities
Private medical laboratories: Seychelles wishes to minimise the cost of having medical tests performed abroad. The ministry of health does not have the capacity to handle specialised and a broad range of medical tests locally. This type of investment, depending on its size, would be located in existing commercial buildings and would offer a wider range of services.
Private medical practice: The government of Seychelles is seeking private companies with a good record of accomplishment to invest in certain segments of the healthcare sector. it is still the
government's policy to provide freedom for patients to choose between their secondary and tertiary healthcare providers. The types of investment that have the greatest potential are numerous and include health screening, physiotherapy, travel clinics and reflexology.
Investment climate
The Seychelles investment climate has improved significantly in the past years. It has a modern tax system with low corporate tax rates. The country offers fiscal incentives to foreign investors in specific sectors of the economy and there is continuous effort to continue to improve on the investment climate. Seychelles has signed Double Taxation Avoidance (DTA) agreements with sixteen countries, which allows preferential tax terms for local businesses and businesses registered in Seychelles
doing business overseas.
