Waste management in Zimbabwe is the responsibility of local authorities. However financial constraints and limited technical capacity have resulted in an accumulation of waste in the major cities such as Harare and Bulawayo.

The major municipalities are reported to be operating at about 40% of refuse collection and disposal capacity and practically 0% in terms of processing. This poses a health risk to the country and the government would welcome investment from waste collection and waste processing companies, which could offer services and technology transfer to local authorities in Zimbabwe. There may also be opportunities for companies to offer other environmental services.

Repatriation of Investment

The Zimbabwean Government guarantees the repatriation of 100% of the original capital investment in the case of disinvestment if the foreign currency is available in the business for that purpose. Up to 100% of dividends from net after tax profit may also be remitted. Investors who become permanent residents may not remit their dividends without prior approval of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.
