

Project: Modern printing press
Location: Nyayano, 30 km from Accra City
Summary: Ghana-based publisher Sam-Woode Ltd. intends to establish a modern printing press to capitalise on the growing demand for printing services in West Africa. The company, which currently publishes textbooks for schools and educational supplementary books, sees huge market potential in the English speaking West African countries of Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Gambia. Secondary students in the five countries take similar examinations under the West African Examinations Council. The company is also interested in co-publishing deals with foreign publishers and is offering its own publishing to interested publishers.
Total investment cost: US$2-million
Investor contribution: US$1.6-million
Investment structure: Either joint venture
partnership, long-term loan and equity.
EIA: The printing press does not pose any major threat to the environment. The appropriate environmental certificates would be obtained before the commencement of the project.
Documentation: A feasibility study and a business plan would be commissioned with the joint-venture partner.
Company description: GSE-listed Sam-Woode Limited (SWL) is an educational publishing company founded in 1984. The company publishes educational textbooks, story books and other educational books, and also holds exclusive distribution rights in West Africa for several titles by international publishers. SWL publishes textbooks in accordance with approved syllabi and has the exclusive rights to publish such materials for sale in the region.
